This is an Owen Wood Sole-Authorship Damascus, Gold, and Prince Edwards Black Jade Art Deco Folding Dagger. The blade measures 4 inches, the handle in 5 inches, for an overall length of 9 inches. Owen Wood is an extremely talented and creative art knife maker who was born and raised in South Africa, but that now calls Arvada, Colorado home. From his Arvada workshop, Owen is currently producing some of the nicest, most original and creative art knives that are currently available in the art knife world. Owen uses only the finest materials in his creations, and has started to create completely sole-authorship knives since he started using his own amazing Damascus for the handles as well as the blades. He also mixes Swedish Damasteel with his own damascus on certain pieces, and always uses the highest grade pearls, ivory, shells, and other premium stones for his handles and inlays. He also uses substantial amounts of gold to adorn his pivot screws, mounting screws, and as an inlay material. He is the head organizer of the prestigious B.A.K.C. (Boston Art Knife Classic) knife show which is held every other year in Boston. This specific folding dagger by Owen not only shows all his trademark details, but is also a prime example of one of his completely sole-authorship knives. The long dagger-ground blade is wonderfully done and features Owen’s own “chevron and flame” mosaic Damascus. The chevron and flame are actually two different pieces of damascus that are created separately have to be precision welded together to create this amazing blade. The blade also features an 18k gold dot on both sides for and extra touch of class. Five smaller gold dots are located close to the spine on either side to facilitate the opening of the knife. The handle, like the blade, is another work of art. The bolsters are Owen’s beautiful sole-authorship damascus. The pivot screws are not only a feat of engineering, they also add to the overall beauty of the piece. Both are 18k gold and have perfectly inlayed black lip pearl inlays…and look amazing in person! There are two 18k gold spacers per side separating the bolsters from the jade inlays, as well as two 18k gold triangular inlays that have a two-tone satin/matte finish that truly need to be seen in person to be appreciated. Small precision screws hold the damascus bolsters, gold triangles, as well as the premium grade polished Prince Edwards Black Jade inlays in place. The jade itself is a beautiful deep black and has an incredible luster to it. The titanium liners are gold-anodized to match the rest of the knife, and provide the locking mechanism (a very smooth linerlock). As a finishing touch, Owen has created a backspacer which runs the entire length of the knife, made of blued steel and featuring a beautiful diamond pattern (another hallmark of Owen’s knives). This knife embodies the modern “art knife” with its beautiful lines and amazing details and materials.
